EU DAY FOR VICTIMS OF CRIME

Today 22. February is the European day for Victims of Crime

The Victims’ Rights Directive

The New EU rules on victims’ rights that apply since 16 November 2015 should bring major changes in the way victims of crime are treated in Europe.

The aim is that all victims of crime and their family members are recognised and treated in a respectful and non-discriminatory manner based on an individual approach.

In her statement, Commissioner Jourova insists that we must fight violence together and give its victims the support they need to get over the trauma and rebuild their lives.

“Road Traffic Victims still are not yet considered as real victims of crime by every one, when a driver is braking the road traffic law whilst speeding or driving under influence and killing or injuring another road user isn’t that a crime too?”
